Albert Kanahele

Obituary of Albert Momi Kanahele

Albert Momi Kanahele passed away on December 29, at 81, just a few days short of his 82nd birthday. He was born in La'ie, Hawai'i and raised with his 13 brothers and sisters. He was a lifelong faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. After an idyllic upbringing in the Hawaiian countryside, and graduating from Kamehameha, Albert went on to earn degrees from California State University - Los Angeles and Brigham Young University - Provo, Utah. After a successful business career in real estate and economic development, especially his last position at Hawaii Resources Inc., in his beloved hometown of La'ie, Albert and his devoted wife Susan, retired to Henderson. Anyone lucky enough to know Albert knew that he loved life, loved music, and was a talented singer and musician. He also loved being active with tennis, raquetball, and the heartbeat of his life--golf--which he played right up until the end. Albert was a true kanaka maoli who spent his life exemplifying Hawaiian values and serving the Hawaiian community, and he was a man of faith, a deeply spiritual and loving spouse and patriarch. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Susan, his 3 children, 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and too many nieces and nephews to count.
