Obituary of Miriam Alberta Hite

With great sadness we announce the passing of Miriam, our devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched, on October 21, 2021. She left us peacefully in her sleep at her residence in Boulder City, Nevada. She was in her 94th year. Born in Mickleys, PA, her family moved to Allentown, PA in 1922 where she graduated high school in 1945. She was determined to continue her education and was accepted in the Nursing Cadet program from 1946-1948 at the Veterans Hospital in Coatsville, PA. Upon receiving her nursing credentials, she looked to the West to relocate saying, “She just wants to get warm!” Her dream came true in 1949 when she was transferred to the Veterans Hospital in Tucson, AZ. She was a dedicated nurse throughout her career until retirement. She married in 1949 and is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Starr Haase and Deborah Anne Calos; three grandchildren, Michael Bellinfante, Rachael Hicks Brown and Carla Hicks Bailley. She is also survived by six grandchildren. Everyone that knew her would say she was the most hardworking and honest person ever! She found her talents in playing the piano, candy making, lapidary & silver jewelry making, knitting, gardening and her absolute passion, dog training. All these things were self-taught by reading. One day she saw a magazine article about cordial cherries and the next day she was making them, because they looked so good! That legacy has been passed on to Deborah and her daughters. Candy making is an annual event....are you on her list? The dog training cultivated long-lasting friendships over the years. The love for your dog was shared by many in her circle that became the breakfast club. In her later years our talks about those days brought back many memories of her beloved dogs...lots of laughs about the joys, the struggles, and the companionship they offered. She loved her dogs! She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
