Oh no. I'm so, so sorry. Paul was one of the funniest people I knew in high school, and when we reconnected a few years back he hadn't lost a bit of his humor. Witty, smart as hell, and a really kind soul. He will be missed, and I'm so sorry for your loss.

I had made some sarcastic comment. My son was chuckling, while Toby made his “laughing at that comment is beneath me” face, which I love. I know it really meant “I am laughing on the inside.”

Dear Lorna and Kate
I received the news of Toby´s passing last night from Rebecca with great sadness. I last saw Toby at an evening get-together at the Furcrons´ apartment at 151 many years ago and I remember vividly how he spoke about his activities in the film world, creativity, and the challenges of matching dreams, expectations, and reality.
Toby will forever remain an essential part of my childhood memory. I recall often constructing densely-woven space exploration scenarios together, where Toby and I would slip into the roles of courageous pilots hurtling through the unknown darkness while improvising an emergency landing strategy for the nearest asteroid – he often proudly used his pocket calculator to program and test technical parameters which he used to assure us both that we could indeed reach the stars for which we had set our course.
His high intellect and analytical ability paired with creative curiosity and a powerful imagination made him both an inspiring co-conspirator as well as a fearsome challenger when we matched wits (I had no chance when we played 3-D chess). Like anyone our age, we had our share of conflict patterns, but we were usually able to soon set aside our differences and reset ourselves for new adventures. I can´t help thinking that even then, Toby somehow sensed the challenges he was facing. We were not in touch regularly after I left for college, but I firmly believe that the chance to provide companionship for his father, and the unbroken and heartfelt support from both of you were a necessary affirmation and a source of blazing strength for him.
My heart is broken for you and your family. The cruelty of such a premature departure is almost unbearable and I have no words to adequately describe all he gave or what he leaves behind. I´m thinking of all of you and want you to know how grateful I am that you were able to be there for Toby when he needed you.
My deepest condolences to both of you and to your families.
Big hugs to you both,
Andrew
