Obituary of Demetria Topacio

Demetria Topacio or as some called her, “Nanay Demeng” peacefully passed on June 18, 2021. She was 82 years young and is survived by one daughter and 3 sons. Demetria was born on August 12, 1938 in the small city of Malagasang, Imus Cavite, Philippines. Years later she married Leandro Topacio who sadly passed in 1999. Anyone who had the honor of knowing Nanay Demetria, knew the beautiful soul she was. She filled everyone’s lives with love and happiness. We look back at her life and see how much she has touched our lives and made sure to leave her legacy behind with those who remember her fondly. We remember her days spent in the kitchen cooking for anyone she could. Making sure all was fed—as any grandmother would. If she wasn’t found in the kitchen, she could be found micro-cleaning the house and making sure all things were where they should be. If you listened closely, you could hear her humming her favorite tunes as she did so. Nanay Demetria was a simple woman and wanted nothing but a future for her four children: Susan, Mario, Gerry and Larry. She had but just an elementary education and nothing but pig raising to earn money and put food on the table. Her dreams and struggles were worth it as all four of her children graduated with college degrees with the hopes of a brighter future. She didn’t stop at raising her own children, but helped raise her grandchildren as well. Family was everything to her. In her final days she was surrounded by those who loved her. Loved ones near and far paid their respects and made sure she reciprocated the love she had given them all those years. We pray that Nanay Demetria and Tatay Andoy are together at last, smiling down on us. Demetria will continue to be in our hearts as we carry the life lessons and love she has given us. Though she is gone, she will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Nanay Demeng we will always love you and be in our hearts. Thank you for the memories.
